Kefalonia Planning

On the 25th June, Dan and I are jetting off to the San Giorgio Hotel in Kefalonia for two weeks. I am so excited! I have only ever been to the greek island of Zakynthos before, and for the party side of it, which I didn't really enjoy at all. However, I have heard amazing things about Kefalonia so I'm really looking forward to both relaxing, and getting stuck in there.

Before we travel to a new place, it has become a tradition for us to order a travel guide for the area we will be visiting. I love learning a bit about the place I will be seeing before I actually go there. This time though, we have two travel guides! The Berlitz "Zakynthos and Kefalonia pocket guide" and the Marco Polo guide* to "Zakynthos, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Lefkas". I have been really enjoying reading them and learning about some of the places we will be visiting. We have actually decided to test-run both of these travel guides, as we thought it might be helpful for anyone visiting Kefalonia in the future! So expect a post on this in the future...

The things we are definitely excited for is the natural beauty the island has to offer. I want to see the lake in a cake, Melissani Lake, and the beautiful beaches too. We're also hoping to make the most of the fact that there will be logger heard turtles, and we want to go snorkelling in the north too! We'll definitely be relaxing as well though...There's obviously also the food to enjoy as well.

Our main aim of the holiday is to relax, because it has been a very long year! Hopefully we will get to do some touristy bits too. I am excited to see what the nearest town of Skala has to offer though.

Have you ever been to Kefalonia? Do you have any recommendations?

* I was kindly gifted this travel guide to review by Marco Polo guides.

  1. Kefalonia is so beautiful, you will love it. I would say explore the island as much as you can Argostoli and Fiskardo are beautiful. I am staying at the same hotel as you a week later and can't wait.
Captain Vangelis does amazing boat tours from Skala beach. I am planning to go to Ithaca with him this year as a few years ago did a coach/ferry one. It is the next island as is so peaceful and beautiful.

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment! I will definitely be taking in your recommendations. I have heard good things about Captain Vangelis so will 100% be checking out what he offers. Apparently he is cheaper than other tours too which is always a bonus. The hotel looks gorgeous. I am very excited! Have a wonderful holiday xxxx
