Herne Bay which is a gorgeous beach a stone's throw away from Canterbury
Canterbury is always going to have a special place in my heart. It was the place that I found myself at 18 years old living along for the first time. It was the place that I found some fabulous friends, some of whom will be friends for life, and it was the place that I fell in love with Dan. Every corner I turn when I am in Canterbury, there is a memory. Some good, some bad but overwhelmingly memories that make me miss this city and the experience I had in it.
It was also the place that I became who I am today. I wouldn't be as confident or as happy as I am now had I not gone to university in Canterbury. Part of me going to Canterbury was to learn how to survive on my own, and I definitely mastered that. I can cook myself a meal, change a lightbulb (just about) and cope on my own. I know how to budget and manage my money. I've travelled all across the country by myself, and grown in confidence. Before I went to university, I wouldn't even go into town by myself and now I almost prefer it! Canterbury was good to me.
My three years in this city changed me as a person, and for the better. I grew to love time by myself, and that is one of the most important things I could have learnt. There are always going to be times that you are alone and appreciating your own company is so important. I owe so much to this city, and the experiences I had there!
For now though, I can only hope we'll be back in Canterbury soon.
Do you still miss your university city a year on?
Oh that is such a lovely post! I still live in my university city and I feel like I won't ever go back because I love it so much here. I can totally relate to what you're saying in the text :)
